A retreat in the stillness of the woods and river at Well of Mercy that offers a balance of structured group activities and time for solitude with a focus on Self-Awareness and contemplative practices. Optional activities include opportunities for breath work, meditation, walking the prayer path or labyrinth, sitting on a hammock, reading, and ample built-in time to rest and listen for the still, quiet inner voice. Facilities Well of Mercy has 3 sleeping residences and 2 cottages. Volunteer leaders will reside in the Sisters House. Retreatants will stay in either Sunrise House, Sunset House, or one of the 2 cottages. Sunrise and Sunset Houses have 6 bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom and a shared kitchen and deck. The 2 cottages are self-contained units with a queen-sized bed, bathroom, living area, kitchen, and deck. Cottages are reserved for couples. Join us on zoom for the kick-off meeting for our new The Artist's Way group, following the book by Julia Cameron. Bring your book or workbook and read the first 24 pages to get us all on the same page. The focus of this first session is planning: we will decide how often and how we structure our meetings as we embark on this journey of creative recovery, which centers around writing. Join us for our first joint service with Ridge Road on Monday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ridge Road Sanctuary. This will be a Longest Night (Blue Christmas) Service, created especially for those carrying grief or facing any kind of loss this season—or at any time. All are welcome, whether you’re seeking comfort yourself or simply want to be present in support of others. The service will include prayers, music, and guided reflections. Following the service, Trey, Sue, and others who feel called will remain in the sanctuary to gently hold space for anyone who needs additional support or a quiet moment of care. If you'd like to volunteer to do some readings for the service, let Sue know.
Kristi Phillips is hoping to do something special this Christmas for a beautiful family she has gotten to know, Edith and Miguel Allen Sallizar and their four kids: Emely (15), Jr. (11), Christopher (4), and Jayson (3). Christopher has special needs, and the whole family works so hard to care for him without much help. Kristi is organizing this and she'd love to give each child a Christmas gift and host a fun afternoon for them at Common Thread Church on December 20 from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., while their parents enjoy a nice lunch out. We would be grateful for help funding the gifts and for folks (adults and kids) who can come play board games with the older ones or spend time with the little ones. Like to bake? Like to eat cookies or give some away to neighbors and friends? Take part in our 2nd annual CTC Cookie Swap! Bring a few dozen of one type of cookie and go home with a variety! In addition to the cookie swap, we will be collecting diapers for The Diaper Train of Raleigh. Any and all diapers (even opened packages) and wipes are welcome. Kate will send an email out on December 19th with the number of friends participating. Bake 2 cookies per person. Package them in Ziplocs or any other wraps you'd like. Bring your packaged cookies in a large container labeled with your name and the cookie type. Drop the cookies off in the Fellowship Hall before church starts on Sunday, 12/21. Kate (and helpers) will re-package everyone's containers so that you will go home with a variety of cookies! Come and pick up your goodies after church. Soup & sides for dinner followed by an intense trivia competition with prizes from Two Roosters. The Ridge brings in a professional trivia host for this event—it seemed to go well last year, and we hope to have an even better turnout this year.

Come kick off the Lenten season with a Mardi Gras brunch in the chapel as church is starting on 2/15. The church will provide the coffee and tea.
