Still Deconstructing?

For those beginning this leg of the journey…

Before you build something that lasts, you often have to take a few things apart.

At Common Thread, we recognize that many of us come with complicated spiritual histories—stories that include religious trauma, questions we were told not to ask, and beliefs that no longer fit the shape of our souls. We also know that deconstruction isn’t about tearing everything down for the sake of it. It’s about getting honest. Making space. Finding out what still holds, and what never really did.

This group is hosted by our founder Doug Hammack, who led this community for 30 years through its own deconstruction journey and has begun his own venture to help other spiritual communities do the same. This is a space for those who are still raw and perhaps new to the deconstruction process to gently, bravely, and honestly explore sentiments such as:

  • I’m not sure I believe that anymore.
  • That teaching harmed me.
  • I want to make peace with what I’ve left behind.
  • I still feel connected to something, but I don’t have words for it yet.

You don’t need to call it deconstruction if that word doesn’t fit. Maybe it’s unwinding. Maybe it’s unlearning. Maybe it’s just a quiet clearing out. However you name it, wherever you are on your journey, if you’re ready to sort through what’s real and what’s residue—this group might be a good place to start.
